public art   >   Perpetual Nature

2012; latex paint on concrete; 3 x 700 feet.

In fall 2012, I was commissioned by the art program of the New York City Department of Transportation to create a mural on jersey barriers along the bicycle access path between the Flushing Bay Promenade and Northern Boulevard, in Queens.

The mural was executed in two days: one day was spent applying primer to the barriers, and another day was spent painting the design, using stencils and the help of about 20 volunteers.

I used a cool palette of blue and green hues to evoke vitality and perpetual motion in the natural world — wind currents, waves and tides, mountains and seas — a continuous scroll of rhythm and movement.
